Beset by aches and pains, she wrangles her quarrelsome body into the seat across from mine and smiles. 
She calls me John, my father’s name, and I flinch. She appears not to notice, idling away the time pressing out the creases of her dress.
She asks how the kids are. I tell her, they are happy, joyful, living life. This response is far from the truth, I have no children, but honesty is too heavy a weight to place on a sinking mind.
I wish she remembered these daily visits, the same questions answered again and again.
Mostly, I just wish she remembered me, and the love we once shared.
