Fly in the Blue Yonder

Senryu:gory Rorschach

common fly swatter
with excessive summer use
becomes ink blotter

“You wouldn’t know a good time if it fell out of the sky and landed on your face and started to wiggle!”

— Roman Craig, The Great Outdoors

the great                     out doors
unpredictable in nature

                   of wide open grandeur
      where nothing is           /concealed/
                    [behind closed doors]
Because
urine does the trick for territory

Even though most prefer to stay inside, I’ve never heard anyone say the great indoors

Louie the Fly
Will never die
Never release a final breath
Cos Louie the fly
Between you and I
Transcends the concept of death

      1. Interview with filmmaker Scott Higgins, son of actor Ross Higgins – the voice of ‘Louie the Fly’.
The 1957 ‘Louie the Fly’ Mortein jingle was added to the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia on 24 October 2017.
‘Louie the Fly’ first appeared on Australian television in 1957, going on to become one of the most recognisable characters in Australian advertising.
The iconic ‘Louis the Fly’ jingle debuted in 1962, and was created by Bryce Courtenay, then a copywriter at McCann Erickson advertising agency and later an award-winning and bestselling novelist (The Power of One). The jingle featured lyrics and music by James Joseph White and was voiced by actor and comedian Ross Higgins (Kingswood Country).
The jingle, sung in Higgins’ distinctive gravelly voice, was an instantly recognisable part of Mortein TV and radio advertisements for 55 years, becoming one of the world’s longest-running television advertising campaigns. In 2006 the Advertising Federation of Australia awarded ‘Louie the Fly’ fifth place in its ‘50 best advertisements of all time’.

        (Remember Kingswood Country?)

      2. That’s amazing, and well deserved. Like I said, I still remember the commercials, the song, the voice. I haven’t seen Louie in at least 15 years.
I’m guessing that alien that was addicted to potato chips was top 5 as well.
        I don’t remember Kingswood country 🤔
