Midnight Beholds & White Flour (part 2)

White flour (part 2)

Of crypt nor case
Mutual in that there waste
The dimes man hath symbolised
A price which deems to tantalize
To the dust demise their birth
Solid a fist of copper
                        Driven through the earth

(I couldn’t find part 1)

Midnight Beholds

Gauntlet of prose
Down at the flame
And grow

To the one I love
That does not know
My liquor of life
You’ve drank of
Behold midnight
The midnight beholds

Through the darkness
Through the masquerade
Find the midnight
The midnight beholds

The sun has set this masquerade
To take us to another
Find the one the night Beholds
Sting into the poison gold

Behold midnight
The midnight beholds

(Written for my band Premium Octane)

Weekly Theme:
Memory Lane

All poems featured this week were written when I was in my early to mid-teens.
I’ve corrected spelling and obvious grammatical errors, otherwise they remain untouched.

      1. Exactly. I’m doing it less recently. Having trouble finding time to sit and write, it’s a minute here or there when the kids aren’t attacking me these days.

    1. Kind of like 69 🤣
Drummer had drug and alcohol problems, then a weird disease. She has a few kids now.
Singer had a few kids too. One of which she had on her front lawn because she couldn’t make it to the hospital.
Guitarist got in a car accident, lost his leg, moved interstate.
      Then me, the bass player.

      1. 😂 We had two more Guitarist who left the band. One went to the military and one to teach English in Japan. I think he is back living with his parents 🤔 hard to keep track after 20 plus years.

  1. I’d love to get a taste of that tune that accompanied the Midnight Beholds… I wonder how age changes the perspectives and would you have changed anything about the earlier verses??

    1. The book that had all my bass tab was destroyed in a fit of teenage rage. I think I wrote the lyrics and bassline around 15.
I would rewrite the soul out of this 😂 but the purpose was to look back and change nothing.

      1. I did. I’m jealous of the little bastard 😂
I don’t cringe on the more recent stuff. I get annoyed and want to edit. Then I’ll look again in 6 months and I’ll want to edit again 🤣

  2. HI mouse, how great you still have your poems from an earlier time in your life. I can only imagine how it felt to re-read them … did you think: “Wow, this is better than I remember” or “What was I thinking back then?”

    1. Hi eden
It’s like looking at a time capsule. I can remember writing some, like where I was, or what gave me the idea.
There is some cringe worthy stuff, but more the notes I’ve written in the margins than the poetry itself.
Do have anything from an earlier time?

      1. Ha, I have plenty of stuff from an earlier time, some published, others not.

I read old stuff like watching a horror movie, I don’t want to experience it full on. Much of it still resonates, but like you, there is definitely cringeworthy stuff! At least it indicates to me that I’ve improved!

      2. Do you ever republish or publish the old stuff?

I think that’s why I destroyed the first few poetry books I wrote. I knew how awful they were then 🤣

  3. I Love this theme and the pieces…though I really want to see the originals with the spelling and grammatical errors.

I am also going to choose to believe the band was Norwegian black metal. You, who’s face I have never seen, was painted white with black darkness and destruction 🤘🏻

    1. I will take a few photos and at them to posts later this week, maybe 😉

      Sorry, mostly alternative.
I did once perform in a satin dressing gown and bunny rabbits ears 😂

  4. Hi mouse, starting a new thread to respond as I didn’t see an option to continue above. Yes, I do publish/repub old stuff. I’m a wonderful plagiarizer of my own work! I change things around though, so it’s not exactly as it was originally written. Surprisingly, some of my old stuff is not as cringeworthy as I thought they might me. That’s good! hahah!

    1. I was thinking about the whole self plagiarism, since I don’t remember writing some of them and I’m not really the same person anymore 🤔
A welcome surprise. So can we expected to see some classic eden, or will we never know the old from the new?

  5. I think the best answer is: I publish what works for me in the moment. Some of it may have been written so long ago I don’t even recall writing it.

If it still resonates with me, I think it’s worth sharing, otherwise not.

      1. Ah, I was thinking of word documents. I copy and paste often, sometimes wondering if I wrote something or saved it as a prompt 🤣
Still, a doppelganger writer would make for an excellent horror movie.
