Life & Death & Water

Spring adds new life and new joy to all that is.

The birth of light is the death of darkness

So that’s what Happened to Dad

Dad went out for a pack of smokes
That was three months ago
We heard all the runaway dad jokes
But we knew it wasn’t so

Then came spring thaw, one early dawn
We found him on the lawn
He had froze, from nose to toes
In a typical smoker’s pose

I will throw this
dirty
water
in your face
As a sign of
well
wishing
To
Cleanse
You
And grant you
good luck

(if it works you won’t get sick from the water)

The Water Festival is the New Year’s celebration that takes place in Southeast Asian countries such as Burma, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand as well as Yunnan, China. It is called the ‘Water Festival’ by Westerners because people splash / pour water over one another as part of a cleansing ritual to welcome the new year.

      1. Zombies will settle for spam, but they prefer brainz.

It was a single nonsense word as far at the AI bots were concerned, I’m sure. That’s probably “spam” in some people’s minds.

    1. Now that is a fascinating tradition I’ve never heard of before. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Did the colourful handmade costumes make it to the US?
Ancient Valentines Day they would spank women with strips of lamb flesh, and here in Finland at Easter we dress in costumes and decorate pussywillow branches in exchange for treats (Halloween style)
      Traditions are fun and weird.

  1. Hi mouse,

Dad was great, smoking is hazardous for your health, don’t you know? Hahah!

Friends in Thailand have the best time with the Water Festival, great way to welcome the new year.

Hope you’ve had a great week,

    1. Hi Eden,

I’m glad I quit. I see people here in minus 20 shivering because they need their fix.
I was in Chang Mai for the festival years ago. It was great fun, everyone gets involved.

Great week here. Hope its been great for you too
