A Question From My Childhood

Setting: A sign reads, Leaving the designated path at any point is Strictly Prohibited!

Beyond, two men crouch over a decomposing body.

Park Ranger: He had no provisions, maps or equipment. We’re guessing it was a man by the clothes. The body’s been out here so long it’s hard to know for sure.

Police Officer: What an idiot. Why would anyone come out here? There’s a safe path marked out. The signs are there for a reason.

Park Ranger: Happens more than you’d think. Wait a second. I recognise this red and white striped shirt. This idiot is Waldo!

Police Officer: Well I guess that finally answers the question.

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

-Ralph WALDO Emerson
