Camouflaged in Charcoal

Camouflaged in charcoal
Upper lip blackened
Clenched jaw chiselled
Punctured sockets where
Death swirls and pools
But does not penetrate
A sheltered soul
A rusted tin heart
A ruby red leak
A shell of a man resigned
Hollowed over time
So far within
Beyond blame
A haunted vessel
Nothing enters
Nothing escapes

  1. Punctured sockets where
    Death swirls and pools
    But does not penetrate,
I liked the whole poem but those lines read loudly. πŸ–€

    1. Thank you. I wrote that part without editing. Lucky streak.
The painting is fascinating, I only had the image and no title. No direction or context available.
Could just be a death portrait πŸ˜‰πŸ’š
