The True Monster

Aged beyond numbers

Honed into a precision instrument

In the dread of endless blue

The silent killer makes his home

One drop mingled in the salt

A Heartbeat electrifying the field

Miles in each direction

The master

The apex predator of the sea

Remains unthreatened

Only

to sleep with eyes open

the water breaks and the heavens open

Angels on sturdy clouds appear

the nets encircle

And he

Is face to face with the true monster

An average of six humans are killed by sharks annually.

Humans kill more than 100 million sharks a year. That’s more than 11,000 an hour.

Cows,

horses,

bees,

dogs,

alligators,

snakes

and many more creatures are responsible for more human deaths per year than sharks.
