Faceless

 

 

The city lights spread out below me. Each bursting into existence with a sudden shock that fights back at the darkness.

They shine out like cheerful faces, drawing the attention they desire, illuminating one another, sharing in the glow of recognition.

They are all different, but from here they look the same. Crowded but orderly, markings in the uniform blanket of the night.

They don’t realize I am here also, in the shadows, watching without a face.
